Winsford developed as a result of large salt deposits which were relatively easy to mine and were basis of employment for most of the last century. Over the last thirty years the character of the area has completely changed. A decline of the salt mines and initiatives by the Urban District Council has transformed Winsford from a Victorian working town into one of the most modern and pleasant areas in the Northwest. Hi tech modern industrial estates and well planned residential areas have brought new life to the region.

Winsford has a population of 33,000 and has a diverse employment base. Recent population increases have come from natural growth and the Vale Royal Borough Councils restriction on housing development in all areas except Winsford and Northwich.

Geographical features, namely the salt mines and well established recreational zones considerably restrict areas of Winsford that can be developed (developers won’t build above salt mines). The main area available for development is to the west of Winsford , which is where Premier Land’s ‘Winsford Site is located.
